How Much Are My Vinyl Records Worth?

A Vinyl Records Price Guide.

So you've just finished spring cleaning and realized you had about 7 crates full of old vinyl records in the cold room of your basement. You might not know this, but you could be sitting on a goldmine! With the resurgence of new release vinyl records from bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails it's apparent that the vinyl market is booming, so why not get your piece?!

If you are like me, and want a short cut, I highly recommend picking up a copy of the Goldmine Record Album Price Guide. This comprehensive guide will provide you with everything you need to determine how much gold you've been sitting on all these years!

When determining the value of your rare vinyl records there are 5 main points I will list as an introduction to help you find the most expensive vinyl records sitting in your collection:

1) The release date. The older the record, the more it could be worth. Keep in mind that if the record is a re-issue of an older recording, this will decrease the value compared to the original.

2) Sealed vinyl records. If the record is sealed and has never been played, its value will increase against the same record that's been opened and played a few times.

3) The condition of the record also plays an important role during the appraisal process. To put it simply, the shinier the better!

4) Limited release vinyl records or records that were removed from the market shortly after their release date are considered to be rare among collectors.

5) Promotional vinyl records tend to carry some value as well.

One last point I would like mention is regarding the artwork. Many vinyl enthusiasts and collectors look for vinyl records that have rare, bizarre, nude, and fantasy based artwork.

During the 60's and 70's it was common for high profile artists, photographers, and painters to do custom cover art for various bands and musicians. One of my favorite bands with the most amazing cover art is Spyro Gyra, original artwork done by David Heffernan.

Also look for cover art by Andy Warhol, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell, Sorayama Hajime, Alan Craddock, Yvonne Gilbert, and H.R. Giger.

I hope this article can give some guidance regarding the ever popular question: How much are my records worth? Personally I have no desire to sell any of my rare vinyl records, but if your looking into a new money making hobby, spend the summer visiting garage sales and putting your vinyl records up for sale on eBay.

Grab your Goldmine Record Album Price Guide and start digging in the crates for your diamond in the rough.

Long live vinyl!
