something smells fishy, like late nights
seeping under vacant door mats, after old mail
piles up higher than the broken legs of a Nun
once stranded in a dream I refused

so let’s complicate things here, try
and confuse the obvious results with difference
or indifference, charging off our freedom to feel

there is nothing clever about a life
and I want more than a life, a table for one
oceanside views of two mangled hearts, served
for consumption and pleasure

theater is morbidly amusing, I think…death
a victorious ending, more so than a coda
in vinyl
scratching my eyes to prove
that I can see
past the brown of living
