Original U.S. release of Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” on CD?
Hi, All! I HAVE the British version. My understanding was that the Capitol boxed sets would have the original U.S. releases. Now I read that they dropped some tracks from “Rubber Soul” and subbed in some acoustic stuff from “Help”.
So that’s what I need…HELP!!! Can anyone clarify this for me? All I want is the original album that I grew up with! DO I have to get it on vinyl?!? THANKS!
What are you talking about? The US version of ‘Rubber Soul’ back in 1965 was just that – tracks were dropped and other tracks were added from ‘Help!’.
‘I’ve Just Seen A Face’ for example, is from the UK ‘Help!’ album, but added to the US ‘Rubber Soul’. ‘Dr. Robert’ was dropped from the US version of ‘Rubber Soul’ (and added onto ‘Yesterday…And Today’).
The UK version of ‘Rubber Soul’ is how the Beatles wanted it to be, world-wide. Capitol in the US pooh-poohed that idea, and sliced and diced it to produce the bastardized version we’re all familiar with.
The CD box set has the version you remember, even if it’s the ‘wrong’ version of what the band wanted.
