What do I do about my ceiling leak?
Water is leaking from the 2nd story bathroom down into the first floor. I have the drywall ceiling from the first floor removed, right under where the leak is coming from. I have figured out the water comes from the gaps in the floor. I sealed/caulked up the gaps, but the water just finds another gap to leak through. Also after a while, the caulking I did didn’t hold, the water started coming again (the water was chalking white, so I know it went through the caulking) from the original spot.
What would be the next step to do? The vinyl tiles seem to have damage to them (they’re black and look soggy-ish) the gaps are dirty and kind of wide?
First I would make sure I knew where the water was coming from. Then stop the source, even if it means replacing piping,drains,etc.It is probably a drain, since a supply line is under pressure and you would be flooded by now.If it comes from not drying in your tub or excess water coming from sink, change your habits Once you get the water stopped you lay Hardee-Board,or similar sub flooring, its a 4X8X1/2″ sheet of concrete based sub flooring over a water tight shower surround vinyl. After the board is laid, you then apply ceramic floor tile, with grout sealer. That would be my suggestion, based on opinion and experience in Construction trade. TY.
