Please help me in Illustrator CS3 & vinyl sticker cutting?
I am trying to cut a vinyl sticker for a banner. I have created a BITMAP image in illustrator and reopened it to use the Live Trace function to outline it so that my Vinyl Plotter can cut the outlines. However, when I send the file over to the Cutter program, the machine will cut the outlines twice making the cuts deep and jagged. I’m assuming that there is 2 outlines on top of eachother causing this.
Is there a way to prevent this doubling of outlines in Illustrator?
Is there a way of getting Illustrator to create only 1 set of outlines?

In my experience, I have used Illustrator straight to the vinyl cutter. The best thing I can tell you is to make the stroke nothing, what the cutter is doing is cutting the outline of the fill and the outline of the stroke, one after the other. try it with a small square with the same fill and stroke as what you are cutting and then cut one with no stroke. That will tell you what the cutter is paying attention to.
FYI. The answer about live trace is correct too. An expanded Live trace may have other shapes around it that were traced. Most of the time there is a white square with the negative shape of the object that was to be removed. If not removed the background square would be cut by the cutter. If the cutter cut a box around the object this is probably why.
Most of the time selecting the best image before tracing and then using the pathfinder to reduce extraneous paths is the prep work that is needed.
