Who is your favorite all time musical group and why?
For me, the Beatles because it reminds me of the happiest days of my life as a little girl sitting in the basement listening to them on vinyl.
Without a doubt it would be Rush. I became a fan in 1975 at the tender age of 13 – and have been a fan all these years. (Even though “Test For Echo” and “Vapor Trails” left a little to be desired in my estimation.)
Rush are, as the common saying goes among many of their long-time fans, “the soundtrack of my life.” Through junior-high school, high-school and on through “real” life (friends, cars, jobs, wives!) Rush has been the one constant. For instance: If I can’t remember exactly when a particular event took place (Hmmm…. What summer was it that I accidentally backed into my dad’s car and crushed the fender?), I just recall the Rush album that was out at that time, and use it as a borometer. Incidentally, the album was “Permanent Waves”. It was during the summer of 1980. Boy, was my dad pissed!
But, I digress.
Rush has overcome alot of obstacles, both personally and professionally, to get where they are today. They do what they want, how they want, when they want – without giving in to the pressures money-hungry record companies apply.
They’re always evolving, never afraid to try something new. They’re loyal to themselves, their fans and their art – and that’s a difficult thing to do in the music business.
