advice on selling Tchaikowsky full piano concerto Vinyls?
Hi
Im in need of some advice. I have found some very old vinyl records (78speed) in my nans loft. Some are dated before WW1 and my nan is wanting to sell them. I would write the names of the music on the vinyl but there are nearly 100 of them. In the collection is Tchaikowsky full piano concerto – Concerto No1 in B flat Minor, OP 23,
1st Movement (part 1-5)
2nd movement (part1 – 2)
3rd movement (part 1- 2)
Chanson Triste, OP,40.NO2
Plus some others like Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, and I think some story telling ones like Mr Potter Has a Brother Part 1&2, Mr Potter visits Southend, and The man in the ditch, told by Edgar Wallace.
Could someone tell me if these vinyls are worth anything, they are all in brown sleeves none of them are in original cases/sleeves.
I would apprieciate any help you could offer.
Thanks
I don’t agree with these answers, honesty__. Some 78 RPM’s can be of great value to collectors; It’s true, however, that unless the recording is a rare or unusual one, it will not bring you much when sold in isolation. It’s also true that 78’s are often still in circulation, as yours will be if you put them up for sale. Best thing to do is to contact a collector by advertising what you have (in the newspaper) or, as someone has already suggested, on E bay. Make a list of both the work and the performer(s). Arrange them by genre or type (classical, popular standards, jazz, spoken word etc.) Of course, if you like music, keep them yourself and play them. I have an old 78 of Lily Pons singing April in Paris — I wouldn’t part with it at all. As far as Frank Sinatra: 78’s are likely to include his early period with the Tommy Dorsey band, when his voice sounded like gold. Sinatra fans may well want them, if you don’t (I myself have several of these early gems, which have never been re-released on CD.)
Good luck!
